6.4 When it concerns Workings of powers
This is the third in the group of the expressions of power.
It is hereby about the dynamical energy out of God to us.
Also mind the double plural again. It probably includes a number of possibilities, through which God wants to express his power to us.
Paul prays for the Church in Ephesians (1:9) that they all shall know “how overwhelming big the powerful working of God’s power is for us who believe.”
Up to now our thoughts concerning God and his Kingdom have often stayed limited. What do we really still expect from Him?
Our faith, we have hardly been raised /fed in this. Yes, how shall we also believe when we are not told? Faith is after from hearing indeed!
Romans 10:14-
And verse 17: “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” This means: the Son of man, baptized in and fulfilled with the Holy Spirit. Our Example!
Workings of powers:
Are not: some human manifestation of power.
Are not: a paranormal talent to accomplish tours de force. This is a demonical matter!
Workings of power:
Are indeed: a spiritual expression of the Holy Spirit, through which He lets us share in the resurrection power of Christ, to his dynamic Godly energy.
Are indeed: an instantly happening miracle, a radical action of God, through us.
For wellbeing
God wants to express his help to us in difficult situations.
By means of this expression of the Holy Spirit we get the possibility of a powerful resistance against all kinds of ‘robbing, slaughtering and destroying’ works of satan.
Often this became visible in the life of Jesus on earth.
Jesus had the working of faith as well as the working of power in the storm on the lake.
He preached in the synagogue in Nazareth. The crowd became furious because of his confronting speech. They dragged Him out of the synagogue, through the streets of the city, till outside the gate, to kill Him, by dumping Him in the abyss! So you can see Can you see, who was working here through (‘religious’!) people…!
Then the gift of powers works in Jesus. “But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.” (Luke 4:30).
It becomes clear in the life of Paul how the working of power from the Spirit reveals itself. He shook a snake off after he was bitten by it. Nothing happened. To the big amazement of the other people present, the poison was being neutralized by the miracle of the Godly power.
Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 11 the awful resistance he experienced from satan (been in prison, experienced physical punishment, been exposed to death, been lashed, been beaten with rods, been stoned, was shipwrecked, endangered by robbers, by his own people and strangers, threatened by rivers, nights without sleep, hungry, cold and thirsty, often without cloths, etc.).
The expression of workings of powers must have been functioning extremely well in his life! Of course, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to endure this!
Also in the ‘chapter of faith’ of Hebrews 11, a statement of great faith and special workings of power is being made.
Strive after the expressions of the Spirit
Without any doubt it can be said, that the baptism in the Holy Spirit and his expressions/gifts are of vital importance and of an immeasurable range!
It had a good reason that Jesus’ students waited to go out, until they had received the promise, the gift, the baptism, the fulfilling.
It’s astonishing, that satan managed to blind the believers in this way, that they don’t think the baptism in the Holy Spirit and his workings are to be necessary for themselves and for the Church.
There is even warned against (..) it in many (‘Christian’) circuits indeed!
But let’s, with all the love we have for God the Father en his Son Jesus Christ, with all our energy and all our power, with all our heart and our soul and with all of our mind, strive after the gifts and expressions of the Holy Spirit.
Why? To be used (?)
Only in this way we cooperate with the realization of God’s Plan with us and with humanity.
