5.4. Distinction of spirits
This is the third in the group of the expressions of revelation.
God reveals the background of different situations in and to us.
The kingdom of satan manifests itself abundantly in this world, that is being ruled by the forces of the universe. This is an essential work of the Holy Spirit especially in our battle against these operations of satan.
The Bible teaches us, that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have obtained a place in the heavenly realms, in the Kingdom of God. We are now ‘citizens of an empire in the heavens’ (Philippians 3:20) and therefore our battle is never against flesh and blood, obviously never against people (and therefore also not against ourselves → you should not think bad about yourself, find yourself inferior – God loves you and He values you highly!).
Ephesians 6:12 and 13 – “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
What are those weapons of God? For sure and especially also the expressions of the Holy Spirit!
As has been said already before: we have the great assignment to expose the works of the darkness and to make known the multi coloured wisdom of God in the spiritual world.
We need all the expressions of the Holy Spirit, if we want to be warlike to reach God’s purpose and out of a heart full of love for our fellow citizens just like Jesus did, willing to do good and healing people who are overwhelmed by the devil ( and these are many)! In any way together as Church!
Distinction of spirits:
Is not: a natural ability to make a distinction, to see through someone’s thoughts, or to sense someone’s needs or tension.
Is not: instinctively sensing someone’s problems or battle.
Is not: foreseeing or a paranormal gifting that is to be compared with that.
These last workings come from another source than from God. We don’t have to deal with occult manifestations in any way when it concerns the expressions of the Spirit. The source of this is contrary to God, even though satan brought and brings a lot of imitation on the ‘market’.
Distinction of spirits:
Is indeed: a spiritual expression of the Holy Spirit, through which He lets us know the disposition and the operations of the demons, who are active in certain situations.
Is indeed: the grasping and distinction of demons and angels of God.
Is indeed: instantly getting to know the working (dark) spirits.
For wellbeing
If we are somewhere fully aware of the value and the necessity of the expressions of the Holy Spirit, than it is in this case.
God intends to prepare Himself a people, spotless and without wrinkles, free from any infiltration from satan and his demonic powers. At the same time God desires, his people to be skilled to set tied people free, bringing these to God out of the power of satan.
God has made it possible for the Church to be able to effectively conquer, to be resistant from out of his Kingdom.
Indeed the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Masterly gift of the Lord to those that belong to Him.
By this expression of the Spirit we will be able to acknowledge the workings of the demons, who often pretend to be angels from the light, therefore as angels of God.
We know that in ‘the last days’, satan will come with great powers, signs and wonders (2 Thessalonians 2:9 – “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders…”). Luckily wonders and signs are to be recognized as ‘false’ or ‘deceitful’, which means, that these are not focused on the recovery of the person and on his growing towards his revelation as son of God!
They are powers, wonders and signs, that have to convince the human being of the (apparent) power of satan and that he wants to sit on God’s throne (2 Thessalonians 2:4 – “He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”).
And who is God’s temple? Yes, that is you, that is me, at least when God lives in us through his Spirit!
Satan is out to be sitting on the throne of our lives!
So satan remains to be the big liar, which he has been since the beginning, with all his miracles and signs. He is a master in deceiving the human being.
Satan tries to keep the people from God and his Kingdom through occultism, spiritualism, satanism, spiritual wandering, perversity and all other forms of misleading and seduction.
How can we escape from these ambushes from the devil?
By lining up with the complete armour of God and to be strong in the power of our Lord.
Therefore be fulfilled with his Spirit!
We will often have to deal with demonic workings with illness. Many diseases are caused by that. Many times Jesus has driven out demons in cases where physical failures are reported: spirits of deafness, of weakness, spirits of impurity. Fever was rebuked by Him like a spirit. Occult powers, like with the lunatic (from lunacy) (probably: epileptic) boy, were rebuked.
Of course not all diseases are a direct cause of demons. There are also natural causes. But at all events it is so indeed, that Jesus has given us the assignment to heal the sick, so regardless the cause of it! Also read further about this under ‘Expressions of power’.
Except in physical diseases we see the diligence of the dark world as cause of a lot of weakness an need in the life of souls of the people today. A very big part of diseases has its origin in the intellectual spirit of the human being. There is then also often spoken about psycho somatic diseases, diseases that express themselves in physical disorders, but find there origin in the core of the human being.
There are also purely psychological diseases, in fact too many to name. Everyone is indeed familiar with some. It is in this case not about, widely explaining the works of satan. God has a solution for all that are sick! “He (Jesus) went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” (Matthew 4:23).
Won’t it be exactly like this with the sons of God when they are being revealed?
So it is greatly important, that we do everything to reach this goal!
Therefore strive after the expressions of the Spirit!
The recovery of the sick and tied people will namely be focused on:
• a) the binding by the power of darkness or deliverance from the spiritual pressure
• b) healing of a physical disease, regardless of the cause
• c) recovery of the emotional life, the inner life .
Creation suffers enormously under disease and misery. She suffers under the slavery of instability (destruction, decay, downfall) and it is the never-
Look around you, in your circle of family and friends. Look at the many that are sick, who isn’t experiencing misery? Who aren’t longing for healing, for the solution of their physical and psychological and other problems?
