5.1. Expressions of revelation
This can also be subdivided in three expressions:
• a) word of wisdom;
• b) word of knowledge;
• c) distinction of spirits.
The special thing, that belongs to these expressions, is: the revelation.
The verb revealing means ‘to expose’, ‘to lay bare’.
The distinct meaning of for example ‘exposing’ a statue is not seen in the New Testament; the exposure doesn’t happen for physical, but for spiritual eyes. When, for example, there is said that Jesus will be revealed, you will have to imagine that they will know who He is with the revelation, rather than seeing Him. (Luke 17:30).
The revealing, taking away the covering, is meant to show us, who remain in the visible world, the things out of the invisible, spiritual world or also called ‘the heavenly realms’.
All that is visible is caused by the invisible, out of what is not discernible (with your physical eyes), says Hebrews 11:3.
Through the Lord Jesus we have been transferred to these heavenly realms, in Him (Ephesians 2:6). That means for example, that we can explain and solve everything that comes our way out of the spiritual insights, which we have obtained and were we will receive more of.
In this way we can compare the spiritual with the spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:13 – “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.”).
Through the baptism in the Holy Spirit God has made us capable to reveal the Kingdom of God (love, peace, happiness and power).
This overall call relates also to these expressions: strive after the expressions of the Spirit!
The expressions of inspiration are of great importance with the preparation for the functioning of the expressions of revelation and later also, as we will see, of the expressions of power.
We learn to completely surrender ourselves to the Spirit in us in faith. Our faith is actively being practised and trained through this. Together with the writer of the letter of Hebrews we could say, that in this way we train our ‘spiritual senses’ to make the distinction between good and evil (Hebrews 5:14).
The more we give ourselves completely to the Holy Spirit, the more the nine fold expression will be able to reveal itself to edify the Church. Through you and me!
Because we have less to do with our own initiative with the expressions of revelation, like with the expressions of inspiration, we also find less instructions about the use of it.
