4.8 Spiritual languages in prayer for others

Expressions of inspiration

4.8 Spiritual languages are also important in prayer for others

We already saw that the Holy Spirit helps us in our prayers to God and also in our prayers for others people and certain circumstances.
In Romans 8:26 and 27 we read: “In the same way, the Spirit  helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”
The Spirit intercedes for us, but also for (other) saints. What a rich possibility for the body of Christ to cross any distance by the works of the Holy Spirit while there is a (physical) distance between the different members, so we can sympathize and suffer with other Christians. This Spirit inspires and helps us to help and support each other.

Riemer de Graaf remembers a special moment that they were urged by the Holy Spirit to pray.
The didn’t know why or for what reason. They surrendered to the inspiration of the Spirit and prayed in spiritual languages for a long time. They experienced clearly that they were in battle. The Lord determined them with a missionary they were in contact with. Later on appeared that God had done a great miracle in saving them from an emergency situation.
While being on mission trips in many parts of Europe and also outside of Europe, they made use of this God-given possibility of intercession themselves for several times.
Sometimes the fears, the danger and the battle were very intense. They called upon the Lord for his help en prayer support. They wrote down the times. Arriving back home in Holland they realised that Churches and friends had been engaged in the battle by the  expressions of inspiration of the Holy Spirit: speaking spiritual languages. Sometimes these friends were called by the Lord to intercede in spiritual languages in the middle of the night. Yes, God knows what He is doing!

Paul says the following to the Church in Ephesians and he also speaks to us, “…that he prays that the eyes of your heart  may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
This is it! It is more than worth the trouble (what a strange expression in this context) to receive the Holy Spirit!
