4.23 Prophecy and other expressions of the Spirit
Several of the other expressions of the Holy Spirit can also be fulfilled in prophesies. It is good to call attention to this. Misunderstandings can be prevented and broken down in this way.
Amongst other things the following can be made known by means of prophecy:
1. a word of knowledge
God reveals a part of His knowledge to me. So I know the Lord’s intention in advance in a certain situation. I then have to share these words, these facts of revelation, to the Church. I can do this by ‘just’ saying, that the Lord gives a word of knowledge and after that explain the meaning of this word of knowledge.
I can also share this ‘word of the Lord’ by means of the expression of inspiration (prophesy).
2. a revelation, a vision, a picture.
God shows me a picture. I can then share about what the Lord shows me. When the Lord guides towards this, I also share what the Lords intention is in or with that picture.
I can also make the Lords intention known to the Church through the expression of inspiration (prophesy).
3. understanding in the invisible, spiritual world (distinction of spirits).
The Lord shows me all kinds of connections and works of the kingdom of satan. Out of this revelation I can line up in the battle, in offering assistance.
I can also make these things known to the Church by means of prophetical expression.
So there are lots of possibilities in expressions, that fit within the gift of prophesy.
Of course it is more clear in itself indeed for everyone to call every specific ‘revelation’(expression) by the right name and also allow to function in this way indeed.
In general we are still in a developing phase in many Churches, wherein things will have to become more clear. Also concerning this we also still need a lot of intensification in knowledge and discernment.
