4.21 Is prophesy a gift for all people?

4.21  Is prophesy a gift for all people?

Marvellous! How often isn’t this question asked: is (..) it indeed for everybody?
When it says in 1 Corinthians 14:24 and 31, that “all can  prophesy” and moreover in verse 39, that we (this means everybody) ‘have to be eager to prophesy’, you would say, why then still this question.
When the Bible, God Himself, calls us to strive after something (for example: “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts”- 1 Corinthians 14:1)it is clear that this is achievable in reality. Otherwise it would be a fata Morgana, an illusion: you see it far away, but it is gone as you get there. Of course our God is not like that at all!
And why would then also God keep this gift form any of his children? Through sins, you say? Yes, that is possible! But, then get rid of these sins and the way to God is free again!
God is giving his Holy Spirit and with that the expressions, to them who obey Him! “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him” (Acts 5:32).
This doesn’t mean, that you will be rewarded for faithfully following rules, but obeying is here meant as: responding to, which is also a meaning of this word in the original text. You listen to what God offers you and you respond (gladly and happily)!
You don’t receive the Spirit by living up to a law, but by listening (to God) and believing (Galatians 3:2).

Be fulfilled by Him. Hand yourself over to God as his co-worker in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, also by means of the expressions of the Spirit in the Church and also outside of the Church (see 1 Thessalonians 3:1).
Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:5, that he wants, “everyone of you to speak spiritual languages”.  “But I would rather have you prophesy. For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” (see verse 31).

And eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophesy (in the Church) – see 1 Corinthians 14:1 and 39.
To eagerly desire really means more, namely: ‘to diligently make trouble for’ or ‘to do your best to obtain’.

Apathy and indifference don’t fit here, because it is about the most important matters in our lives, here it is about the highest things that are important to our spiritual existence, now and in eternity!

What a fine, spontaneous and refreshing work would go out from the Church, when her members, who are fulfilled with the Spirit, would understand with which purpose they are part of the Body of Christ!
They would give themselves to the working of inspiration of the Holy Spirit with more boldness, for construction!!
