4.2 Spiritual languages

Expressions of inspiration

4.2 Spiritual languages

This expression of different spiritual languages is an inspiration-expression (..) of the Holy Spirit.

Speaking spiritual languages:

It is not: knowledge of languages. Because it is an expression of God’s Spirit, we can’t speak of human, natural gifting in easily learning a language. It doesn’t have anything to do with having the skill of flair for languages or not. And it doesn’t have anything to do with human intelligence.

It is not: a magically spoken word. Where the human will is excluded.. And it also has nothing to do with any form of a state of trance or ecstasy.

Is indeed: a spiritual expression of the Holy Spirit, where He invites me to use my speaking organs while being inspired by Him. Acts 2:4 “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Is indeed: pronouncing one of the languages inspired by the moment itself, owned by the Holy Spirit and given by Him. Hereby I speak using my lips, longs, and vocal cords. Then the Spirit constructs the words, the language, either from human beings or from angels.

Is indeed: an unknown language to me (1 Corinthians 14:14-“For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful”).
It is possible that other people would recognize the language. It has happened before and still happens undoubtedly that the spoken spiritual language was recognized by others as an existing and familiar language. For example: a spiritual language was recognized by a theology student as ancient Hebrew. The speaker himself had never learned this language!
At another occasion someone spoke in a spiritual language in a meeting. It appeared that the spoken language was one of the dialects spoken in Eastern Asia. A missionary who was on furlough at that time recognized the language. Also in this case the speaker had never learned that language.
You will see more of these examples in other chapters of this study.

Is: talking and discussing in mysteries (secrets) to God through the Spirit. This can only be understood by someone who thoroughly applies this gift in his own life. 1 Corinthians 2:10 says: “…The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” Only he that speaks in spiritual languages, experiences an increase of knowledge of the depths (= the deepest thoughts, the depth of riches, wisdom and knowledge) of God in himself (Romans 11:33).
It is also praying to God, singing and pronouncing a blessing through the Spirit. Read 1 Corinthians 14:2, 15 and :16.

Is:  a message from God for the Church. In this way the spiritual languages can also be used by the Lord. In this case a translation should follow. Spiritual languages combined with interpretation, pronounced in the Church are equal to prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:5).
