2.5 The fulfilment with the Holy Spirit

With the word, fulfilment, it becomes clear that it is all about our inner being, being filled and fulfilled like a temple of the Holy Spirit.
And this is the way God wants it to be.
God also wants that this temple will remain full (of Him). That is why we read the call to the church members of Ephesus who were already baptized in the Spirit: “Be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
Also Jesus’ students appeared to be filled several times again after Pentecost. “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” (Acts 4:31) and: “The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”(Acts 13:52).

There where the Bible describes the first fulfilling with the Holy Spirit, the word baptism is also used.
So this is the first time that someone receives the Spirit as a gift.
The writers of the Bible use the expression ‘to be fulfilled with (or: by)’for every time there is a renewed experience of being filled with (or: by) the Holy Spirit.
Fortunately this doesn’t mean that we should take a precious memory of a gift once received and hold on to it for the rest of our lives!
After we have received the gift, the Lord wants to fill us again and again with Himself, with his Spirit.
