12.3 Baptisma ‘en’- baptisma ‘eis’

Word Information

12.3  Baptisma ‘en’- baptisma ‘eis’

The concept ‘baptisma’ really doesn’t need any further explanation. It is used for ‘to push under’ throughout the whole Bible.
With the baptism, with the pushing under, the picture of becoming one with the ‘element’ there is baptized in is clarified.
So it clearly is a picture,  an interpretation of an happening, which fits in God’s (recovery) plan.
With the noun baptisma (which isn’t found in the documents outside of Christianity) we find two little words, that give a more precise meaning:

baptisma ‘en’;
baptisma ‘eis’.

Baptisma ‘en’ is used with the description of the means in which there is being baptized. The third case is also being used here. We find this addition for example in the descriptions of  the baptism of John, with the four evangelists. Baptized in (‘en’) water.
Baptisma ‘eis’ is used to clarify the intended and realized goal for baptism. We find this addition in Mark and Luke.

Baptized in (‘en’) water, for (‘eis’) forgiveness of sins, for conversion.
It becomes very clear in the context of Romans 6:3 – “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into (‘eis’) Christ Jesus were baptized into (‘eis’) his death?”
‘Eis’ means: to, to becoming one with – therefore here: to the process of becoming one with the death of Jesus.
The goal of why we are baptized, is: to be one with the death of Jesus through faith. Compare Acts 19:3 – “So Paul asked, ‘Then what baptism did you receive?’ ‘John’s baptism’ they replied
A number of students of Jesus were baptized in ‘eis’ the baptism of John (the baptism of conversion), but they had to be baptized again ‘eis’ in the name of Jesus (verse 5).
And after that, very important, verse 6: “When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues (spiritual languages) and prophesied.
So we also see here that a person doesn’t receive the Holy Spirit automatically!

Out of the former statements it appears clearly how important the baptism of Jesus is. We are expected to be one in his death, through baptism! Baptism is a strong weapon in our battle of faith against the lies of satan. A clear fundamental matter!
In this way we become one with the power of Jesus through the baptism in the Spirit.
The baptism in water makes us one with the death of Jesus, through which we obtained the total forgiveness of guilt. That is the foundation of all blessings in the spiritual world (Ephesians 1:3), which God also wants to give to us.
The baptism in the Holy Spirit make us one with the glorification of Jesus Christ, this means, that Christ can show his greatness in and through us.
Be aware, that both of these baptisms (2 x noun) are mentioned in one breath as part of the foundation of faith in the letter to the Hebrews (6:2).
